Idea: I love the idea of storied portraiture. The caputured humanity highlighted in Robert Hammond’s “Where Love is Illegal” uses posing to tell a story wrapped in the photograph.

Posing is integral to photos of people. Hammond’s portraiture contains so much vulnerability, but at the same time, an intense resilience. It is a story told through positioning and facial expression. These photos were crafted by the photographer to tell his story, but also his subject’s story. It is a story of intense perseverence against all odds. It is a story I want to tell too.
